Application of Technique

Releases from double front chest grab

Releases from single rear shoulder grab

Pattern: Yul Gok

Meaning:

Is the pseudonym of the great philosopher and scholar Yi 1 (1536 – 1584) nicknamed the Confucius of Korea. The 38 movements of the patter refer to his birthplace on the 38th latitude and the diagram represents Scholar

Pattern Pointers:

1 & 4 movement of pattern go down and line up horizontal punch by crossing both ams in front of chest line raising the line up at shoulder level.
Low front snap kicks: 45° angle.
Middle hooking block – middle punch
Movements are connecting, therefore when blocking & punching lock back leg and lift heel (inhale once only throughout both movements).

When performing a hooking block drop hand or foot at the last moment of impact.

Middle side peirceing kick / elbow strike
Hold kick for a second and then strike the palm with the front elbow.

Back knuckle fist faces upwards.

Keep back straight always when jumping to attack or block with hand techniques.
Double forearm block:
Upper arm – thumb level with eyes at the moment of impact.

Lower arm – Outer forearm rest above solar plexus, small finger joint one inch from elbow.

Body half facing.

One Step Sparring (Ilbo Matsoki)

In all cases the attacker lines up and attacks from the ready stance. The attack is a middle section obverse punch in all cases and is repeated on each side.

As the attack sequence is identical throughout 1 step sparring, only the defense movements are documented.

The Attacker is positioned at A facing the Defender at B.

Number 5 – Outerforearm block / Double Punch

1. Step forwards towards A into sitting stance whilst executing a middle outward block with the outer forarm to the attackers outer forearm.

2. Counter attack by pivoting towards A assuming sitting stance whilst executing a middle punch to the rib cage and a high punch to the side of jaw in fast motion.

Number 6 – Simultaneous Outer Forearm Block / Punch

1. Counter attack by moving the right foot towards A assuming a sitting stance whilst executing a middle outward block with the outer forearm and a high punch to the side of the jaw simulataneously.

Two Step Sparring (Ibo Matsoki)

Number 1 – Punch / Front Snap Kick

Attacker: Move the right foot to A forming a right L stance whist executing a forearm guarding block.

Defender: Move the left foot to form a parallel reading stance.

A: Move the right foot to B forming a right walking stance whilst executing a high section punch with the right fist.

A: Move the left foot to B executing a low front snap kick to the lower abdomen.

Number 2 – Side Punch / Turning Kick

Attacker: Move the right foot to A forming a right L stance whist executing a forearm guarding block.

Defender: Move the left foot to form a parallel reading stance.

A: Move the right foot to B forming a right fixed stance whilst executing a middle side punch with the right fist.
