Application of Technique

Releases from single front wrist grab

Pattern: Dan Gun

Meaning:

Is named after the Holy Dan-Gun, the legendary founder of Korea in the year 2,333 BC.

Pattern Pointers

Twin forearm block:
Whichever leg is in front the same side arm is chambered inside. The block follows centre line of body to chest line.

Always punch from chest line after twin forearm block.

High Rising Block:
Distance between inner forearm and forehead – 7 cm (one fist). Elbow bent at 45° angle. Chamber on chest line on opposite side of the blocking arm, no waist twist.

Middle Knife Hand Side Strike:
Chamber hands back to back, slight bend the knuckles towards each other when chambering. Chamber follows centre line to chest.

Impact point slightly lower than the shoulder line.

Hand and elbow slightly angles at the moment of impact.

Three Step Sparring

The attacker lines up and steps back into left walking stance while performing low section outer forearm block.

Number 2 – Front snap kick / Low section knifehand block

A: Perform mid-section front snap kick toward B with right foot landing in right walking stance (ap chagi).

D: Step back into left walking stance whilst performing low-section knife-hand block with left hand (gunnun so najunde sonkal magki).

A: Perform mid-section front snap kick with left foot landing in walking stance.

D: Step back into right walking stance whilst performing low-section knife-hand block with right hand

A: Perform mid-section front snap kick with right foot landing in walking stance.

D: Step back into left walking stance whilst performing low-section knife-hand block with left hand. Counter attackwith front snap kick with right leg, bring right foot back to left foot at the end of the kick and stepping back with left foot into left L stance guarding block (niuja so palmok dabae magki).
